Staats, Lewis
All original artwork framed.
Lewis A. Staats was born in
Wilmington,
Delaware where he received his early education. Prior to graduating from
Wilmington
High School in 1942, Lewis studied art under the expertise of Frank E. Schoonover, the renowned
Delaware artist.
Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Upon separation from the service, he entered the
University of
Delaware under the G.I. bills of Rights, graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. In the summer months during college he began painting seriously in oils, watercolors and acrylics. He soon began to use acrylics exclusively after graduation.
Lewis was employed as a free-lance artist until 1980 when he became associated with Eastburn Studio as a graphic artist. He continued to be a prolific artist in his studio at home until his death in August 2004.
